“NO” is the word of the hour, to say the least. Lindsay uses this word in many different ways now, from the playful, to the inquiring, to the decisive. Jenn told me this morning that she heard her saying it in bed last night – presumably asleep, but objecting to some condition imposed on her. So far, we have allowed her to assert this independence unless it would result in imminent danger or injury. So when does she choose to use the power? One of the more popular areas is with her coat. She always declines the coat. Sometimes she’ll acquiesce to a different color. Sometimes she ends up on the floor, beating her head against the hardwood. We only force the issue when it’s below 32 F, to protect her from herself. She also objects to certain songs now, and just starts shouting “NO!” when they begin to play. Not distracting at all in the car. Jenn said she pulled a new one out last night at bedtime, objecting to the CD when it began playing. So young, yet so discriminating.
It was a fun weekend with Grammy – Lindsay can now come very close to saying “Grammy,” but I found myself missing the previous version, “Mammy.” Filed in the ‘things that sound funny to say out loud’ category: “Mom, you have a hunk of peanut butter on your shoulder.”
